Program Description:This lecture will discuss the pathophysiology, triage, stabilization, and treatment of gastric dilatation volvulus (GDV) in dogs presenting through the ER department. This lecture will also utilize real life cases seen in private practice to guide the discussion.

  • Presenting a case - typical presentation through ER
  • Triage and stabilize
  • Pathophysiology
  • Diagnostic work up

  • Treatment (surgery)
  • Post-operative care

1. The main goal is to help technicians quickly and efficiently recognize, triage, and stabilize a GDV.

2. Review the pathophysiology of GDV.

3. What to expect during the post-operative phase, including complications and negative prognostic indicators.
