This month's talk is being presented by: 

Jodie Ammar, RVT - Tick-Tock - Don't Let the Heart Stop: ECG Interpretations

What to expect:

Brief overview of the anatomy and circulation of the heart. Understand how the heart is functioning by measuring the electrical activity. Recognizing a normal rhythm and common rhythm abnormalities.

- What is ECG?

- Why use ECG?

- ECG procedures (placement)

- ECG interpretation

- Heart Rate Calculations (ECG paper / Grid lines)

- Common Rhythm Abnormalities

This talk will help to provide a better understanding of the conduction system and circulation of the heart. Also gain more knowledge on how to calculate heart rates from an ECG strip, how to identify irregular rhythms and become familiar with common causes of abnormal heart rhythms.

More about Jodie!

Jodie began her veterinary career in 2008 working in general practice and joined ASEC in 2012 working as an ICU and ECC technician. She is now a lead technician on our team and loves helping others to learn. She has also been in human medicine since 2019 as a licensed phlebotomist.

When she's not on the treatment floor, she loves dancing and traveling with her family. Jodie has 2 kids - 4 yr old boy and 6 yr old girl. She's fluent in Spanish and is currently learning to speak Arabic. She is also pursuing a career as a pediatric nurse practitioner because of her love for kids.
